UK EPSRC funded Postdoctoral Researcher in Nanoscience

Postdoctoral Researcher and Postgraduate Studentship in Nanoscience

University of Leicester - Department of Chemistry

48-month contract for the postdoctoral researcher
Grade 7: Salary £28,983 - £34,607 p.a.

42-month contract for the Postgraduate student
Standard stipend of UK/EU rates, tuition fee covered at the UK/EU rates

Applications are invited to join in the Spectroscopy and Dynamics Group,
Department of Chemistry, University of Leicester, and to work on a new
research programme on Nanoscience funded by the Engineering and Physical
Science Research Council (EPSRC). The successful applicant will focus
on the synthesis and characterization of core-shell and/or core-multiple
shell nanoparticles, which are to be fabricated using superfluid helium
droplets. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to participate the
initial design and construction of experimental apparatus, routinely run
the experiments to synthesize core-shell nanoparticles and investigate
the properties of the nanoparticles using microscopy (STM and TEM) and
synchrotron measurement. He/she will also participate in supervision of
Postgraduate and/or Master Students.

This project will involve in design and construction of a complicated
UHV system, synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles, operation
of advanced instruments such as helium droplet source, mass spectrometer
and microscopes, etc. Therefore the successful candidates will be
facilitated with a wide range of skills during the lifetime of the
research programme, and put themselves in the forefront of Nanoscience
in the future.

Highly talented and motivated researchers with previous experience in
related fields are very desirable. Applicants for the postdoctoral post
must hold a Postgraduate in the related fields such as physics,
chemistry, material science or nanoscience, and have a good publication
record. Special experience in instrumentation, molecular beam, growth of
nanoparticles, helium droplets, mass spectrometry, UHV system,
microscopy and other characterization techniques for nanoparticles are
desirable, but not essential.

General information on the group's research interests can be found at the following:

To apply please include a letter of application explaining their
suitability for the position, a full curriculum vitae, a list of
publications, a statement of research interests, and the names and
contact details of three referees (one of whom must be the current or
most recent employer) to Dr. Shengfu Yang, Department of Chemistry,
