Scholarship for Postdoctoral and PhD Student in Highway Engineering at DTU Byg, Denmark
The successful candidates should have: Postdoc Position PhD in the field of civil or mechanical engineering with specialisation in either pavement design or pavement materials Experience in mechanistic design of pavements is a highly valuable advantage.
Experience in asphalt mix design and testing Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken PhD student position MSc. in the field of highway engineering or related subjects within civil or mechanical engineering Experience in pavement design and pavement materials is desirable, but not required Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
Scholarship Description: The Postdoc and the PhD scholarship are integrated in a project called “COOEE – CO2 emission reduction by exploitation of rolling resistance modelling of pavements” (www.cooee-co2.dk). The transport sector contributes with more than 20% of the total emission of CO2 and therefore there is a huge potential in even small reductions of the energy consumption of cars.
Reducing the rolling resistance is one of the ways to reduce emissions. The COOEE project will attack the challenge from various angles: development of advanced models for deterioration and aging of pavements; development of new devices for measuring rolling resistance on the road network and development of novel pavement that is optimized with respect to rolling resistance.
All these disciplines will be integrated in the road asset management system of the Danish Road Directorate. The project is a co-operation between Roskilde University (Glass and Time), DTU Civil Engineering (DTU Byg), Danish Road Directorate (DRD), Dynatest International and NCC Roads.
