You will lead on a project directed toward the functional characterization of an osteoarthritis (OA) susceptibility locus that maps to chromosome 3p21.1. You will use genetic, genomic and functional tools to identify and characterise the causal OA susceptibility allele/s at the locus. You will join a research group headed by Professor Loughlin. You will work on a laboratory-based project, and be partnered with a full-time technician.
You must have a PhD in the area of genetics, biochemistry, cell or molecular biology. Expertise in several of the following areas is essential: molecular biology, cell/tissue culture, gene expression analysis including (real-time) RT-PCR, analysis of cell signalling, western analysis, EMSA, ChIP, RNAi. You must have published work in peer-reviewed journals and presented work at scientific meetings.
You will have the capacity for original thought, excellent oral and written communication skills, independent and team working skills, excellent time-management and organizational skills and excellent IT and computing skills.
The position is tenable for 3 years.
