Research Associate in Cellular Biophysics
Salary £32,100 – £35,620 per annum, in line with experience
Initial appointment for up to 2 years

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the group of Dr Armando E. del Río Hernández.
We use in vivo and in vitro biophysical techniques to investigate the effect of mechanical forces on the behaviour of cells and molecules. Our group is particularly interested in the study of the mechanisms that govern mechanotransduction in normal cells and how these mechanisms are altered or lost in different cancer scenarios.
We seek a highly motivated individual to fill this post, in possession of a PhD (or equivalent) in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Physics, or a related discipline. The post holder will develop and apply different techniques to investigate how mechanical forces regulate cellular behaviour in physiological and pathological conditions. Experience in cellular biophysics and cell imaging is essential, as well as knowledge of Labview and ImageJ software. Previous training in atomic force microscopy or in the use of magnetic tweezers is an advantage, as well as experience in C++ programming language.
We are based in the Bioengineering Department, a newly refurbished space with excellent research facilities for microscopy, biophysics, bioengineering; and in situ resources for cell and molecular biology. Moreover, the department hosts a significant number of groups working in the field of Biomechanics across different levels of organization.
