Postdoctoral Position in Trait-based Zooplankton Modelling at DTU, Denmark 2012
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent We envisage a biologist, physicist or mathematician with a good understanding of aquatic ecology and experience in modelling.
Scholarship Description: The main objective of the fellow is to implement trait-based descriptions of zooplankton functional ecology in models of plankton communities.
One approach is to use fitness optimization and quantitative trade-offs associated key traits to make predictions about the optimum behaviour of zooplankton and predict the distribution of traits along environmental gradients.
Another approach will be to implement trait-based zooplankton descriptions in global, trait-based phytoplankton models (e.g., the MIT Darwin model) to describe phytoplankton-zooplankton communities.
In both cases the goal will be to contrast predicted spatio-temporal distributions of zooplankton traits with those observed in nature. Further information about the project and the research environment can be found at the Centre’s homepage.
