Postdoctoral fellow (m/f) in Neuroscience : Munich , Germany

The Hospital of the University of Munich, Germany, is one of the largest and most competitive university hospitals in Germany and Europe. 46 specialized hospitals, departments and institutions harbouring excellent research and education provide patient care at the highest medical level with approximately 10.000 employees.
The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) at Luwig Maximilian University of Munich offers a position as a

Postdoctoral fellow (m/f) in Neuroscience
We are:
The Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (ISD) located in the biomedical science campus, is a member of the DFG-funded „Synergy” Cluster of Excellence with various institutions in Munich. We are working on collaborative projects and share all resources, hence it is an excellent basic and translational research environment. ISD is also a part of the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences (GSN) in Munich, which educates top-quality Master and Ph.D. students from all over Europe and the world and will give you the opportunity to integrate into this program and work with highly qualified international coworkers. Our lab at the ISD has a state-of the art infrastructure including: brand new fully equipped lab and offices, a state-of-the-art animal facility that is fully equipped with surgery rooms, a recently purchased in-house Zeiss 2-photon (7P) microscope, a Zeiss 880 with AirScan confocal microscope, a Lavision Biotec light-sheet microscope, a behavioral test unit, a large surgery room and a post-operative care unit, a new PALM Microbeam 4.0 laser micro-dissection microscope, and epifluorescence microscopes. Hence, we offer an interactive and inspiring atmosphere, ideal for our researchers to publish in top-tier journals and develop their career at best. We have a strong international scientific network and thus frequently host guest lecturers and maintain international collaborations. Located in the heart of Europe, Munich offers one of the highest quality-of-living in the world.

The group explores critical cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, in particular brain injury. To this end, we map the mouse brain using various cutting-edge techniques to assess brain function and structure including in vivo 2-photon imaging, optogenetics, high resolution 3D imaging of the entire brain – that we developed and rabies virus tracing of neuronal networks.
You are:

  • extremely curious about basic science and carry a great interest to make breakthroughs
  • always looking for solutions to turn great ideas and opportunities into actions
  • always willing to learn, and have the courage to ask questions when you don’t know
  • open to express your opinions and receive feedbacks/critics
  • a team player and willing to work in a collaborative environment to share ideas and experiences
  • willing to be part of a diverse team to make a dent in the universe

The Position
:
For this specific position, we are looking for candidates (m/f) from physics background. The project aims to develop/apply a novel light-sheet microscopy for live imaging of animal models to study various neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. The candidates should have expertise in light scattering, optics and microscopy – particularly light-sheet microscopy. Knowledge in neuroscience and programing (e. g. Matlab, Python or C++) can be a plus.
Applicants should submit their complete application documents as pdf (including CV with the publication list, motivation letter, and two references or the contact info of at least two referees) via email to:

 Dear Sir/Madam,

 Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing you this email in response to the announcement of Postdoctoral position in your lab, I am keenly interested in this project. Working on such project has been a dream for me. I am a self-motivated and devoted person who always devote himself to learn new techniques and have an experience of 5 years to get adapted to a new lab. I assure you that I will prove to be an ideal candidate if given a chance due to my previous experience with Neurological disorders and transgenic mouse models of ALS and Hypermetabolism. I have used Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) as a model organism during my master internship. Moreover, I have an experience of 2 years of teaching in a university. Therefore, I possess a very flexible and versatile personality that can be moulded according to the nature of work and  the environment.  I hope, I will be lucky enough to be granted a positive response.
I did my Ph.D in neuroscience from the University of Strasbourg-France under the kind supervision of Dr. Jean Philippe LOEFFLER. I am sure that You will grant me a chance to work on your interesting project.
Please find my CV, a list of publications and reference list in the attachment.

Hoping for a positive response from your side.
