Aalto University School of Chemical Technology is currently looking for target oriented persons to be hired for fixed term
Doctoral and/or Post-doc positions on
1) Real-time, multilevel optimization of industrial processes
2) MPC(Model Predictive Control) & process performance monitoring
3) FDD (Fault Detection and Diagnosis) of industrial systems
The Process Control Research group in the Department of Biotechnology and Chemical Tech-nology (directed by Prof. Sirkka-Liisa Jämsä-Jounela ) provides education in process automa-tion mainly in the fields of chemical technology, forest products technology and material science. Supervisory and mill-wide control systems in process industry as well as fault diagnosis of pro-cesses and equipment are the two fields in which the laboratory has gained wide and significant experience. The laboratory has been involved in a number of research projects supported by Academy of Finland, Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation), indus-trial companies, international organizations and the European commission. The group was in-volved in the IST_STREP project NeCST (Networked control systems tolerant to faults) in the EC 6th framework programme, resulting in successful industrial application.in the Naantali refin-ery of Neste Oil Oyj. Currently the group has successfully finished its contribution to the EU/IST project PAPYRUS (Plug and Play monitoring and control architecture for optimization of large scale production processes).The scope of published research is very broad covering a variety of theoretical topics in process control and monitoring, as well as pioneering industrial applications of cutting-edge methods in the process industries.
You have received an excellent master’s/doctoral degree (or equivalent) in process control or a related degree such as chemical engineering/process systems engineering, mathematics or physics. Interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and good communication skills are required. Experience in modeling and/or optimizing technical systems and knowledge of Matlab or C/C++ complement your profile.
Your duties responsibilities:
In a European cooperative project, in co-projects with the Finnish process industries and/or Aalto university level research projects the industrial chemical processes shall be intensified by apply-ing new, robust optimization-based control and estimation methods, FDD and/or monitoring such that sustainable real-time operability and energy efficiency can be guaranteed. The research challenges are the modeling of complex systems, data mining and tailored process control and monitoring .You develop methods for robust model-predictive control, which allow the safe and reliable operation of the underlying processes and/or real-time multi-level optimization methods and/or FDD methods. The applicability and performance of the methods developed are demon-strated in industrial settings.
Furthermore, you contribute to lectures, software development and other duties within this chair
The positions are to be filled as soon as possible and is for a fixed term of 12 months. A renewal is possible. If a person with no PhD is chosen for the position he or she has an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. Salary is according to the new salary system of universities, but appli-cants may also provide salary requirements.
