Post-doc for EU Project in Education Evaluation : Delft, Netherlands
TU Delft is offering a research position for the EU project “ENGAGE”. We are looking for an enthusiastic science education researcher specialised in the field of evaluation of secondary school modules and interested in engagement in education and communication. The projects aims at engaging the next generation of young citizens to participate in scientific issues and to change how science is taught. A core element is integrating the approach of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in science education. Students gain an image of science as a body of content, whereas RRI deals with uncertain areas of knowledge, where values and argument matter as much as facts. The greater challenge is to help teachers develop the beliefs, knowledge and classroom practice for RRI teaching. This requires adopting a more inquiry-based methodology, which gives students opportunity for self-expression and responsibility for coming to informed decisions. ENGAGE synthesises contemporary models of professional learning and curriculum development in an international project with 14 partners from 13 countries. In ENGAGE, the Section on Biotechnology and Society has the task of evaluating the activities of the project, i.e. the implementation of an online community of learners (teachers); online courses and workshops; toolkits of examples; activities to help students learn effectively; and projects that put teachers and students into partnership with practising scientists. Within ENGAGE, your objectives will be to: • undertake internal, formative evaluation activities in all phases of the project; • report on the participation and impact on teachers and students based on project targets; • report on stakeholder engagement and influence. You will work within the Section on Science Education and Communication, in cooperation with the TU Delft Science Centre.
Applicants for this position must hold an MSc or PhD degree in Science and have a proven affinity for education development and evaluation or educational sciences. Practical expertise in either teaching science (in the classroom), teacher education or teacher professional development as well as experience in developing teaching materials and student activities are strongly appreciated. An interest in inquiry-based learning, on-line learning and engagement is an advantage. Additional expertise in project organisation and coordination is strongly recommended. Applicants must have good communication skills (written and spoken). A good command of the English language (written and spoken) is essential, and preferably, applicants are able to speak/write in one of the other major project languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian). Applicants should be familiar with one or more educational systems within EU member states.
TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home (with a contract of two years or longer), and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
