The Analytical Science and Imaging (ASI) Group at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), is seeking a highly qualified scientist for the role of bioanalysis/biotransformation laboratory head.

Primary duties include – LC-MS/MS method development, sample extraction/clean-up and analysis, interpretation and reporting of in vivo (pharmacokinetic and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic) and in-vitro results. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be responsible for identification of metabolites in biological matrices such as plasma, feces, bile and urine and determination of in vivo and/or in vitro metabolic pathways in preclinical species.

The position requires expertise in conducting in vitro incubations, sample preparation as well as subsequent analysis, including metabolite structure elucidation. Assessment of enzyme kinetic parameters may also be required.

Proficiency in designing in vitro and in vivo drug metabolism studies to determine biotransformation pathways/routes of elimination, mechanisms of biotransformations is required. Furthermore, successful candidate should possess the expertise to guide synthetic efforts and to identify potentially active/reactive metabolites.

Minimum Requirements

A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry / Medicinal Chemistry / Biochemistry or a related field with a post-doctoral experience, followed by 4-5 years industry experience or a B.S/M.S with 10-15 years industry experience.

Prior experience with biotransformation and bioanalytical techniques and expertise in mass spectrometry is expected.

The candidate should be capable of working independently under moderate supervision and should possess good communication skills (written and verbal).

An excellent working knowledge of general laboratory techniques, LC-MS/MS operation, and troubleshooting and method development is essential.

A strong background in analytical problem solving is also required.
Hands-on knowledge of bioanalysis and biotransformation of peptides, proteins or other biologics is preferred….
