Provide bioinformatics assistance and trainings to SOLiD and Ion Torrent customers
Assist customers with data analysis and trouble shooting
Develop and integrate BioFx pipelines and tools in accordance with customers needs
Support our next generation sequencing platforms through the analysis of experimental results, and the develop software/analysis tools for specific customer applications
Develop, operate and integrate pipelines for data analysis and platform support across our regional NGS customers
Identify and automate repetitive tasks to enhance data retrieval, manipulation, analysis, and to ensure the quality of the sequencing data.
Assist in pre-/post-sales activities utilizing bioinformatics presentation and demonstration of capability
Present results of SOLiD and Ion Torrent data analysis that may be utilized by marketing and product management
Provide in-house or on-site customer training on NGS bioinformatics and data analysis
Additional responsibilities may include:
Develop standard operating procedures, documentation, and scripts to enable customer data analysis and generate custom reports
Apply statistic, visualization and data mining tools to NGS applications
Interact with external collaborators to obtain or provide data
Research competitor intelligence including NGS bioinformatics trend back to China
Contribute to demo data set validation and documentation (script, process, education)
Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
Ph. D. in a scientific discipline (Computational molecular biology or populational genomics preferred) or M.S. degree with equivalent work experiences. Completion of an advanced degree in science is strongly desired.
Knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of an MS/PhD in Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Statistics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field
3-4 years of directly related experience from the qualifications above.
Hands-on experience with the relevant sequence analysis tools (e.g. Blast, SW, Primer3, GAP4, etc.)
An excellent understanding of genomic databases and their annotations (GenBank, RefSeq, ENSEMBL, dbSNP)
Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Perl, BioPerl, Phyton) in a UNIX and Windows NT environment
A good understanding of the biology behind genotyping, gene expression profiling, and genetic mapping
Software and algorithm development skills (e.g. in C/C++/Java/Matlab)
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g. R, S-Plus, SAS), database development experience (Oracle, SQL, XML), related industry experience, and a record of publications, are pluses.
Excellent listening, questioning and negotiation skills in English and Chinese
Ability to express ideas and share information clearly and concisely orally and in writing in English and Chinese
Comfortable in delivering presentations
