1st IMPAKT Breast Cancer Conference, 7–9 May 2009 in Brussels , Belgium .
IMPAKT is a unique European scientific meeting which will focus on IMProving cAre and Knowledge through Translational Research in breast cancer. The meeting is designed to present and enable discussions about advances in translational research and ways to quickly transform laboratory discoveries into tools that clinicians can use to help make decisions about the way they treat patients in their daily practice.
IMAPKT is being organized by the Breast International Group and the European Society for Medical Oncology, in collaboration with St. Gallen Primary Therapy of Early Breast Cancer Conference and the three European Breast Cancer Conference partners, which are The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Breast Cancer Group, the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists, and Europa Donna – The European Breast Cancer Coalition and with the support of the European School of Oncology.
Leaders in breast cancer research and treatment, scientists and clinicians interested in molecular and translational research; new agents; molecular and functional diagnostic, prognostic and predictive tools; biomarkers; and cutting-edge research applications in clinical settings.
Leading international experts will present an informative scientific program with keynote lectures and discussions on hot topics such as:
The biomarkers forum: handling the multifaceted essence of cancer
Creativity in the development of drug response biomarkers
Tumors and nodes biomarkers (traditional and systems pathology, gene expression profiling)
Blood and host biomarkers (circulating tumor cells, epigenetics, pharmacogenetics, proteomics/metabolics)
Stromal markers of organ-prone metastatic behavior
Overcoming endocrine resistance with signal transduction inhibitors
Local treatment: hit the target and spare the normal tissue
Is dormancy targetable?
Pathways for PI3Kinase, Angiogenesis, Growth factor receptors targeting
Functional imaging of the breast and adjacent nodes
Designing clinical trials guide treatment decisions for individual patients
Young oncologist training course
We are pleased to inform young oncologists that IMPAKT includes a training course specifically designed to help early-career oncologists understand how translational research works in the field of breast cancer. Attendees will gain valuable insight into future research opportunities, and have an opportunity to link up with BIG, the largest international network of breast cancer experts.
The course ‘My journey with new technologies: All I wanted to know and never dared to ask,’ will be held on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning (6 – 7 May 2009) in Brussels, and will be preceded by an introduction to BIG and its future clinical and translational research plans, highlighting in particular the possibilities for young researchers to become involved in its development. In addition, ESMO will present its Fellowship Program, highlighting translational research opportunities.
To ensure an ideal learning environment, course attendance is limited to 50 participants, selected on a competitive basis. To apply for the course, candidates are requested to submit a CV, motivation letter and copy of their ID card or passport by email to eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%69%6d%70%61%6b%74%40%65%73%6d%6f%2e%6f%72%67%22%3e%69%6d%70%61%6b%74%40%65%73%6d%6f%2e%6f%72%67%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) no later than 21 January 2009.
Fees for the training course are €50 for participants registered for the IMPAKT conference and €200 for individuals who wish to attend the training course only.
BIG Fundraising Event, 7 May: Dinner and concert, followed by a reception with the artists.
