Resveratrol treatment appeared to prevent the development of mammary tumors in animal models; however, it had no effect on the growth of existing tumors. Paradoxically, treatment of pre-pubertal mice with high doses of resveratrol enhanced formation of tumors. Injected in high doses into mice, resveratrol slowed the growth of neuroblastomas. 2.5 or 10 mg/kg of resveratrol slowed the growth of metastatic Lewis lung carcinomas in mice. Resveratrol (1 mg/kg orally) reduced the number and size of the esophageal tumors in rats treated with a carcinogen. In several studies, small doses (0.02–8 mg/kg) of resveratrol, given prophylactically, reduced or prevented the development of intestinal and colon tumors in rats given different carcinogens. Mammary tumours are mostly

Mammary tumours are mostly cured by chemotherapy in the starting phase and in advanced age in addition to that surgery is done.

Thanks for the post green1706

Thanks for the post green1706.

Resveratrol is a very interesting compound. It seems to have a postivie effect on a large number of systems. Here is a website with details. (Great website, very informative) It is found in grapes, wine, peanuts and berries. The compound has a high bioavailability but is quickly metabolized by the body suggesting that high doses of treatment may be necessary. It has shown in vitro to inhibit tumor growth and increase the lifespan of lower model organisms. It has direct antioxidant activities and can act both as an agonist and an antagonist for estrogen. In tumors, reveratrol has been shown to induce cell cycle arrest, inhibit proliferation, and induce apoptosis. Resveratrol has also been shown to inhibit cardiovascular disease in vitro.
Check out the website for further information and references.
