Dear Friends,
Autism is a difficult problem to solve. The reason is there is no specific and sensitive diagnostic tool. A sensitive and specific diagnostic tool can be developed by inter-disciplinary efforts. Markers for autism will help treatment and management of the disorder more effectively.

What exactly are you looking for here - what are you able to offer to a collaboration.

Asnwering these points might enable other users of the board to help.

Autism is increasing in advanced societies: 1/160 boys and 1/200 girls is the current rate of occurence. I learned also about a method of treatment or vaccination? that cleans the body from the mercury poisoning. This might help and is practiced by certain pediatricians. Any information in this regard?

Mercury poisoning? Where did that come from?

From what I've passively picked up autism is likely to be due to altered brain development - structures and linkages between the various regions being different from "normal" (how ever that is defined). If this is true then the process that initiated it must be quite early on in development.

I haven't heard of any toxin that is supposed to be responsible for such an altered development but if there were one then I would expect it to have been in the mother during pregnancy.

What good would detoxing toddlers do?

Due to the increasing number of autistic children in advanced soscieties, it has been postulated that pollution and mercury level might play a role in occurnce of this abnormality and early detoxication might help to reverse the effect.

Having a son that is in the autistic spectrum, I have discussed this "detox" with a teacher at a school for autistic children. She has seen no change in the children after this process, but says the process itself is very traumatic.
