Funny but a bit disturbing article in the LA Times today about cellist disease.

If there is something positive to take from this then it might be that we should all be a little more careful about quoting papers that have been quoted by others but not actually read by ourselves.

The BBC also has a tradition of including fraudulent news items once a year - April 1st. The best known was back in 1957  and it was a story that told of the Swiss spaghetti growers and showed them harvesting the al dente noodles directly from the branches of large bushes. It also explained how each strand of spaghetti always grows to the same length thanks to years of hard work by generations of growers. Back in the 50's very few people in Britain had eaten spaghetti and so there was widespread embarassment as the penny dropped!
