I just attended the Planet xMAP meeting in Austin TX. I wanted to learn about the platform, and in particular, to see if it would be a good fit for our nucleic acid-based clinical Dx testing. Most at the meeting were already using the platform - there were very few potential users. I would like to hear from any current users of kits designed for the platform. I'd be particularly interested to heard from anyone who has developed home brew tests on the platform - especially any nucleic acid-based tests.

I used to work with Luminex platform for HLA antigen detection. Luminex provided in situ training and workshops and showed us different applications of the platform towards our needs. Luminex is based on flow cytometry, microsphere and laser digital signal processing. It can be applied to DNA microarray, genotyping, gene expression and enzyme assays. You need to talk to them about the details of what you need to implement. |

Neil,
We run four Luminex 100 (2 as Luminex and 2 as Bioplex units) for DNA diagnostics in Cattle. We design and implement our own assays with standardised designs and conditions allowing multiplexing of our production assays up to a 6-plex at present but with R&D and QTL mapping panels up to a 32-plex.
If you need any assistance with details just ask and if I cannot help you then the folk at Luminex are always willing to assist. Alternatively the Bioplex folk at BioRad at Hercules CA may also be of assistance.

Thanks Brett and omid. We've invited the rep from TM Bioscience to come in to tell us how their DNA-based (mostly SNP detection) kits could work for us. This looks like a very flexible platform.

I developed a 7 plex to look at SNPs in the beta and globin gene locus and I thought it worked great. Everything was homebrewed. I found keeping everything in a 96 well cold block was key. |

Luminex platform is used to detect SNPs polymorphisms for pharmacogenomics application. What do you mean " for only a few SNPs" I don't think this is the case. |
