Conventional hematotoxicity testing involves measuring different mature blood-cell components, over time after administation of an agent. For proliferating systems, major toxicity does not occur in mature cells but in the cells responsible for producing the mature cells, namely the stem and progenitor cells for the lymphohematopoeitic system. For stem cell hemotoxicity to play a role at all stages of drug development, the HALO ( Hematopoeitic/hematotoxicity Assays via Luminescence Output), was developed. Does anyone know the name of company/ies that provide Halo platforms?

HALO exactly stands for Hematopoietic/Hemocytotoxicity Assay via Luminescence Output. HALO Tag fusion proteins are used in different sub-cellular locations: Nucleus, Mitochondria, Cytosol, etc. Cells can be labeled with fluorescence HaloTag ligand and images observed by fluorescent microscopes. The HaloTag technology is available by Promegawww.promega.com and is a new method of labeling target proteins within the cell that can be used in functional assays. It allows observing cells over long period of time so studies such as drug exposures can be done.
