Iam recently used some inhibitors which are made in DMSO.
For now I have kept them in some unused bottles, until know the safe diposal.
Can anybody have a prior experience to deal with such type of chemical , and how to dispose them in your Lab.
Also wanted to ask about Beta-Mercaptoethanol disposal, and many more such chemicals, as they are highly toxic many of them are carcinogens and neurotoxic.

Do you have an Environmental Health and Safety group part of your lab/facility? If so, I would discuss with them the procedures that are in place for chemical waste management.

Thank you Sir for your kind attention.
We do have a managing group for the institute and as our lab is new, we have been told right now to store these kind of toxic things rather than draining them down the sink.
So before they follow up the procedures by themselves I wanted to know more about from different labs around the globe for safety disposal they are following.
So you can directly tell and inform me about it, I will take intiative for safe disposal from our lab.

After thawing cells the DMSO-containing medium ends up going down the sink after being treated with bleach tablets. This treatment is to kill any living organisms, not to inactivate DMSO. The amount of DMSO that is disposed in this way is tiny. The dilution factor is very large so this should be OK.

Beta-ME: Buffers used for western blots end up in the sink and gels, once blotted go into the solid waste bins. These are incinerated and then treated as normal waste = landfill.

Are you using very large amounts of these substances?

Thank you " Parvoman"
Not in huge quantity but we do use them regularly although the quantity and concentration is ppm and
gels etc. we throw in Biohazardous waste and is taken by the concerned person who take care of safe disposal, but I don't know really how its taken care of.
Ultimately going to soil and ground water by some means or other. and that's what my MAJOR concern is.
Really I sometimes feel thinking of some alternative safe ways, and WE all should think about Sustainable growth and think ahead of time.
