During a solar eclipse, shadows of leaves resemble the shape of the eclipsing sun.

A neat book mentioning this is: Light and Color in the Outdoors By Marcel Gilles Jozef Minnaert, Len Seymour

I saw this myself during a partial eclipse in the 1990s. Crescent shadows all around. Very cool.
