I've been looking all over the internet for the starting salary of a research scientist I am doing research on it for a future job choice and if anyone can give me any info on it I'll gladly take it since I'm seriously considering this career.

The main question is where you are looking to do the research?
in a Private company or in the Academia?

i've spent a few months doing this and have had little success. as has already been pointed out, you need to decide on what sector you want (which you've done). but you won't know what level you'll be able to enter into once you go into the private sector -- will you be a research scientist step 1 or step 8 (made up those numbers). or, will you be able to become an assistant/associate lab head? further, the salaries vary depending on the company you join, the project you're assigned to (which can change on a moment's notice as funding/interest dictates), and so on. also, salary ranges have changed a bit just since i started grad school, so just because a post-doctoral position at pfizer, amgen, etc. starts at $45K, doesn't mean it might not be $50-60K in 5-10 years. (If only...).

It's a good idea to do what you are doing, especially because you'll want to go in to an interview holding as many cards as possible. Go to conferences and find representatives that know something (Exp. Bio. is a good one for industry networking). Good luck!!
