Hey everyone,
Im new to this so do i just go ahead and ask the question?
Well in Vogels guide to synthesis and as part of my Chemistry course im meant to create 4 derivatives of an unknown compound.
So initially I ran all the specs and determined my unknown was o-nitrobenzoic acid (m.p. 147-148, needles from water)
Okay easy enough acid chloride and ammonia reaction gives an amide
But there is no reason why heating aniline and my acid together wouldnt produce the anilide, according to vogels it should work, 1g acid 2g aniline reflux for 2 hours.
After doing this i got this dark homogenous resin or some sort, Vogel then suggests "powdering the cold solution" just wondering what does this mean?!
need help asap thankyou
Will
