Job Description
The Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University seeks an Assistant Professor (9 month, tenure-track, 70% research, 30% teaching) in Poultry Nutrition. The research program will focus on quantifying/modeling nutritional needs of poultry, identifying and characterizing novel nutrient sources for poultry or developing nutritional regimens to enhance the nutritional composition of eggs and maintaining the integrity of the environment.

The successful candidate is expected to:
a) develop a research program of national stature serving the Iowa poultry industry, particularly related to layers, by using innovative and contemporary approaches; b) secure extramural funding; c) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition and poultry management; d) advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and e) participate in multidisciplinary programs to address priority areas of the Iowa poultry industry.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team with the new Egg Industry Center. A new, state-of-the-art laying hen and egg research facility is being constructed at Iowa State University. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the Midwest Poultry Consortium Center of Excellence. Collaborative research opportunities exist with the department, the university at the Center for Designing Foods to Improve Nutrition, the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, and the College of Veterinary Medicine; the Iowa poultry industry and biorenewables initiative; and the USDA Agriculture Research Services.

Required Qualifications
A PhD in animal science or related biological discipline, and documented creativity and productivity in research and teaching are required.

Preferred Qualifications
An emphasis in poultry nutrition is preferred. Strong background in biochemistry.
