Position Title: Assistant Professor - Equine Studies
Part/Full: Full Time

The University of Guelph offers a two year contractually-limited appointment in the Equine program based at the Kemptville Campus, just south of Ottawa. This 80% teaching appointment will be primarily to deliver courses in the Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management (BBRM) degree program in Equine Management. The BBRM Equine Management major is the first and only program in Canada offering students degree-level study focusing on equine studies, with emphasis on business and environmental stewardship.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Nutrition, Equine Facility Management, Equine Event Management, and other related courses in the equine curriculum as necessary. Additional responsibilities will consist of academic advising of students, involvement in equine departmental meeting and affairs, and to develop and maintain links with the equine industry.

Expertise in equine physiology and/or nutrition is desirable, preferably with a veterinary background. Current and direct experience in the equine industry through farm management and equestrian competition would be very useful. Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level is essential. The ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with a variety of people in both academia and industry is required.

The ideal applicant should hold a DVSc specializing in equine, or a PhD in equine or animal science or related area of study. Applicants holding a Master’s degree with considerable experience in teaching will be considered.

Applicants should forward a letter of interest and CV outlining education, training and experience together with original transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate education. Three letters of reference providing critical evidence of academic experience should be forwarded no later than June 23, 2008, directly to:
