http://www.eos.ubc.ca/meetings/virus/index.htmlIt is with excitement and anticipation that we invite you to join us in Vancouver, Canada's gateway to the Pacific, for the 5th International AVW. The AVW has its origins in 1998, when the first Algal Virus Workshop was convened in Bergen, Norway. Subsequent workshops have been held at Galway in Ireland, Hiroshima in Japan, and Amsterdam in The Netherlands at two- to three-year intervals. For 2008, the AVW is being held for the first time in North America. It represents a significant shift in focus, as the International Organizing Committee decided to expand the theme of the workshop from algal viruses to aquatic viruses, in order to increase communication among a wider range of researchers interested in viruses in marine and fresh waters. We look forward to greeting you in Vancouver where you will see old friends, make new ones, and engage in an exciting dialogue on viruses and their role in aquatic environments.
