Research Fellow Position in Physical Biochemistry and Biosensing

The Protein Biophysics Section of the Laboratory of Bioengineering and Physical Sciences, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is recruiting a Research Fellow in the field of biophysics of proteins at interfaces.

The purpose of a Research Fellowship is to provide junior-level scientists with doctoral degrees experience in biomedical research while supporting the NIH's intramural research program. To be eligible for the Research Fellowship, a candidate must have demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement and the ability to conduct successfully, with minimal supervision, a pre-established program in laboratory research.

The research activity primarily involves the development of biosensor technology and the collaborative application of biosensors for the study of protein interactions. Applicants should be highly motivated and have a Ph.D., at least 3-5 years of post-doctoral work experience, and strong biophysical expertise in the fields of supported bilayers, protein-surface interactions, protein biochemistry, and mathematical modeling. The successful candidate will join a team of investigators using different biophysical techniques including AUC, ITC, DLS, FFF, SPR, and fluorescence spectroscopy for the study of macromolecular assembly processes.

The position will be located on the NIH main campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and is subject to the 5-year/8-year limitation at the NIH. The position is available to foreign nationals, but thorough proficiency in the English language in reading and writing is required. Entry level salaries are in the range of USD 42,897 - 79,127 for Research Fellows. Applicants should submit a cover letter, summary of their past work, curriculum vitae including bibliography, and names and addresses of three references to: Dr. Peter Schuck, Chief of the Protein Biophysics Section, LBPS, NIBIB (pschuck@helix.nih.gov).
