Welcome to the 6th International Biometals Symposium (BioMetals 2008). This conference follows a series of very successful meetings that started in Calgary in 1997, and continued in Tübingen (2000), London (2002), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (2004), and Welches, Oregon (2006) devoted to the importance of metals in biology. Within this decade of Biometals meetings our knowledge of the importance and functions of metals in bacteria, fungi, plants and animals grew exponentially. This makes impossible to cover all aspects of this exciting and expanding research area in one conference. So, we tried to prepare an attractive scientific programme covering some particular aspects of Biometals with some of the most expert speakers around the world. Besides the experts talks, we encourage the participation of young researchers, graduate students and post-docs since they are the future of the field. In this regard, we offer special conference fees and cheap lodging at the University of Santiago Residence Halls.
