LabAutomation2009 to Feature Outstanding Plenary Line-Up

CHICAGO The Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA), a multi-disciplinary, non-profit scientific association spanning diverse industries and technology sectors announces its outstanding plenary speaker series for LabAutomation2009, January 24-28, 2009 Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, CA, USA.

Leading the five-day event is Klavs F. Jensen, Ph.D., Warren K. Lewis Professor and Head of the Chemical Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Jensen is the co-author of more than 450 published articles and the recipient of numerous prestigious scientific awards. LabAutomation2009 attendees will have the opportunity to hear Jensens presentation at 9 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2009.

Joining Jensen as part of the plenary platform is Boston Scientifics Co-Founder and FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) chairman John Abele. Abele, a pioneer and leader in the field of less invasive medicine, holds numerous patents and has published and lectured extensively on the technology of various medical devices and on the trends and issues affecting healthcare. Abele will address the audience at 9 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2009.

Completing the plenary line-up is real-life insider Jeffrey Wigand, Ph.D. In 1995, Wigand achieved national prominence when he became the tobacco industry's highest ranking former executive to address public health and smoking issues. His experiences were inspiration for the 1999 Academy Award nominated film, "The Insider," starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe. Wigand is now a nationally recognized teacher, author and consultant on various tobacco issues, He also spends his time on the non-profit organization he founded, Smoke-Free Kids, Inc. Wigand will present his talk "Mixing Research, Technology and Ethics" at LabAutomation2009s Innovation Award Luncheon and Closing Ceremony Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
