Faculty Position in Biophysics

The Department of Physics at The Catholic University of America is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the area of biophysics, with an emphasis on nanotechnology and materials. The position will include a secondary appointment in the Department of Biology. The Vitreous State Laboratory (VSL) in the Department of Physics has in place extensive facilities and ongoing research programs in materials, a growing program in nanotechnology, as well as a modest research program in biophysics and biomaterials that includes cell culture, separation, and analysis capabilities. The successful candidate would be expected to benefit from these resources in their development of a vigorous biophysics research program that interfaces with nano materials and biology and to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in the physics department and certain specialized graduate courses in the biology department. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field and at least one year of postdoctoral experience. Preference will be given to candidates with an established record of excellence in research, teaching, and obtaining extramural support. Applicants should provide a detailed CV, a research plan, a brief statement of their teaching philosophy, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to: Prof. Daniel Sober, Chair, Department of Physics, The Catholic University of America, 620 Michigan Av, NE, Washington, DC 20064 or by e mail to biophysics@VSL.cua.edu. Applications received before March 1, 2008 will be given full consideration. The Catholic University of America was founded in the name of the Catholic Church as a national university and center of research and scholarship. Regardless of their religious affiliation, all faculty are expected to respect and support the University's mission. CUA is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, EOE/AA/V/D/M/F.
