This was discussed at the Human Brain Proteome Program meeting in Paris last April (HUBPP 2004). One general limitation discussed at the meeting was that by using classical detection (silver ...) the proteomic results are limited to the most abundant proteins, whereas, perhaps the most interesting changes may be in very rare proteins. This led to the idea of trying subproteome approaches.

We have used 2-D to look at AD proteins.

There are two ways of studying single neurons from mouse brain
1. Primary culture of region of intrest and imaging in confocal microscopy, where you select single cell for your study.
2. Make slice of your region of intrest and then image them over conofocal.

Mainly, it all depends on type of work you are pursuing.
If you are doing Electrophysiology----------------look for patch clamp techniques.
