A recent report in Science indicates that the new Red List from The World Conservation Union (IUCN) has added the Western Gorillas to the "Critically Endangered" list.

Scientists Say Ebola Has Pushed Western Gorillas to the Brink

The indicates the Western Gorillas has been added due to the growing threat of the Ebola virus, in addition, to the persistent pursuit of poachers. The Gorillas apparently live within a range where Ebola outbreaks have devastated the existing populations.

For more information about the Western Gorillas and why the decision was made to elevate their status to 'critically endangered' see the Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Fact Sheet from the Species Survival Commission.
