I've been working with DNA Strider since about 1991 and still find it an excellent piece of software to work with. If I remember correctly it fitted easily on a 1.4 MB Floppy disc. It's quick and has NEVER crashed. The problem I now have is that my G4 Mac is still running System 10.1.5. If I upgrade the system software I will no longer be able to work with Strider which requires System 9, Classic or lower. I have been unable to find a system X version of Strider. Our computing support people already refuse to support sub-system X and many of the communal printers in the building require drivers that run under 10.3 upwards. And the icing on the cake is that the Scientist Solutions pages don't display correctly either. Is there a Strider version out there that runs on system X?ThanksPM
Hello parvoman,I wasn't able to find a upgraded version of DNA Strider but may have found the next best thing - a software program that reads and writes DNA Strider-compatible files. Its called Serial Cloner. Most importantly Serial Cloner is freeware and is available for MacOSX, MacOS9 and Windows.Product Overview:Serial Cloner has been developed to provide a light molecular biology software to both Macintosh and Windows users. Serial Cloner reads and write DNA Strider-compatible files and import and export files in the universal FASTA format (as well as in pDRAW32 format). Powerful graphical display tools and simple interfaces help the analysis and construction steps in a very intuitive way.Download Serial Cloner HereHope this helps!
Tony,This looks promising. I'll check it out to see whether it can replace Strider (and allow me to upgrade my Mac OS). Even if this is not possible, it will allow me to transfer hundreds of old DNA Strider files from my even older non-USB Mac which is running system 7.Many thanksPM
