The National Laboratory Training Network is announcing the "Biosafety and Biosecurity for Research Labs," November 1-2, 2007 in Boston, MA.
In this era of threatening biological and chemical emergencies, both natural and man-made, it is essential that laboratories be both safe and secure.
The safety sessions of this program will take a behind the scenes look at the unnoticed world of laboratory safety, including facility components and equipment. Programs will demonstrate use of Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and Biological Safety Cabinets (BSCs). You will learn how to conduct risk assessments and apply practical solutions to prevent accidents from occurring. Finally, procedures for handling both biological and chemical waste will be explained.
The security session will present the principles of laboratory security that are outlined in the new 5th edition of the Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL). Learn how to conduct a vulnerability assessment, the nine components of a good biosecurity plan, and why your lab should implement a plan. The program will end with a comprehensive discussion through case studies of Occupational Health and Safety Programs and Emergency Plans.
You will learn strategies for resolving the conflicts between security and safety.
This intermediate-level program is designed for laboratorians working in research and academic laboratories, health and safety professional, equipment certifiers, and facility engineers and architects. If you would like to register for this course, please go to:
