It's an exciting area of study. St. Judes Children's Hospital is doing ground breaking work using hydrogels impregnated with EGF to treat burns.
As a transdermal delivery researcher, I have used hydrogels to deliver numerous water soluble drugs into the dermis and microvasculature. I have made chitosan based hydrogels for wound treatment that showed impressive acceleration in healing while suppressing infection.
The hitch is that the FDA regulates it as a medical device, which slows down R&D.

Is there any 'In Vitro' method present for testing transdermal drug delivery by hydrogels? Please describe/give referances. Thanks in advance.
