Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a recognized leader in the development of diagnostic
instruments, research equipment, and related reagents, with operations in more
than 120 countries, and $2 billion in sales. Beckman Coulter has an excellent
opportunity for a Development Scientist Intern for the 2007 summer.

Student would work on site in Indianapolis participating in an ongoing
development project.

The project is a development effort encompassing nucleic acid purification and
amplification systems. Therefore, the student would have an opportunity to
participate in and learn the following:

Automated protocols on a liquid handling system.
Nucleic Acid extractions from various biological samples.
Amplification technologies including PCR, LightCycler Assays, Invader Assays.
Common molecular biology techniques such as agarose electrophoresis,
restriction digestion.
Student would be required to participate in department functions such as lab
meetings and journal clubs. These meetings are designed to develop technical and
presentation skills through presenting scientific research papers as well as
ones own data obtained while working on a development project.

Minimum of a junior enrolled in a college or university program leading to a
Bachelor degree in Biology, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology or a related
field. Qualified candidate will have experience working in a lab environment,
experience conducting molecular biology experiments, and have basic knowledge of
DNA and Proteins. Experience with automation equipment is a plus. Individual
must have excellent verbal and written communication and a desire to work in a
team environment.
