From Genome BiologyConversion of amino-acid sequence in proteins to classical music: search for auditory patternsAbstract:We have converted genome-encoded protein sequences into musical notes to reveal auditory patterns without compromising musicality. We derived a reduced range of 13 base notes by pairing similar amino acids and distinguishing them using variations of three-note chords and codon distribution to dictate rhythm. The conversion will help make genomic coding sequences more approachable for the general public, young children, and vision-impaired scientists.Does this mean I will be able to listen to the latest genomes as Podcasts in the near future? How geeky would that be!There are sound clips in the supplement.
Very cool! I can see in the near future, someone creating an entire orchestral movement specific biochemical pathways. If anyone else is interested, here is the website gene2music that goes more deeply into the theory of their work. And if you're curious to find out what your favorite gene sounds like, go to their online gene2music translator
very nice idea i didnt imagine it
And now this has been patented. To what end, who knows. More discussion on slashdot.
