The full genome of James Watson, co-discover of the structure of DNA and Nobel laureate, was presented to him on two DVDs during a ceremony intended to launch the era of personalized medicine. Here is a link to the June 1, 2007 New York Times story Genome of DNA Discoverer Is Deciphered.

In the same competitive fashion as his race to complete the human genome, J. Craig Venter deposited a complete copy of his own genome to Genbank as well. Reporting on this is a story from Wired Seven Years Later, Human Genome Competition Continues. However, six days later Wired posted another story Venter Publicist: No Genome Drama, where the Venter Institute disagrees with the assertion that publishing his genome at this time was to steal the limelight from Watson's announcement.
