Dear All,
Today I had a debate with one of my fellow scientist rgarding 2D-IEF gels.
The qeustion is wether one benefits much more from running big gels 17 cm instead of 8 cm gels?
What is you take on this issue?
Guy

Depends on what you want to do, of course. In general I prefer large gels (24 cm) in order to get a higher resolution, seperate more proteins and it is easier for me to do mass spec later on. But then I am also interested in whole proteome analyses.
Disadvantages are costs and time, of course.
I usually only do small gels as a control of the sample.

Thanks for your take on this one.
I personaly used mini gels with a very good seperation of the lisosomal membrane.
Had arround 300 spots.
if you are planning dong just westerns than I guess mini would be the best quickest way.
