The Department of Food Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites additional applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The Department is seeking an individual who takes a molecular approach to solving problems in Food Science. Qualified candidates should have a demonstrated expertise in food chemistry, food biochemistry, functional foods, nutraceuticals, bioactive food components, and/or physiochemical properties as it relates to health and food quality. Individuals with carbohydrate expertise are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized independent research program and to interact with existing Food Science faculty and with faculty working in similar areas in other departments. Teaching responsibilities will include both undergraduate and graduate courses. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Fields or related discipline by time of appointment, with a strong interest in teaching/advising and strong oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated research ability in the health promoting activity of food and food components is required. Post Doctoral research experience is preferred.
