http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/are/careers/fr_find.jspJob Duties: The design and development of synthetic routes and processes to drug candidates based on application of technical knowledge and use of appropriate resources, including on line journals and searching tools.
Undertaking practical synthetic organic chemistry to demonstrate processes and critical parameters on a laboratory scale prior to transfer to scale up facilities (primarily at R4 & R5 levels).
Reporting of results to departmental leads through both written and verbal communication and reporting and protection of results externally through appropriate patents, publications and presentations.
Maintain all aspects of one or more project, providing strategic direction and supporting a number of activities in parallel.
May supervise or mentor other colleagues providing guidance, coaching and career development support.
Provide scientific direction to other staff.
May participate in wider project teams, representing Chemical Research & Development with strong scientific leadership.
In addition to the above responsibilities, at Senior Principal Scientist (R6) level the post holder would be expected to;
Act as a significant technical resource within and potentially outside of the department with broad technical contribution.
Initiate and conduct independent research programmes demonstrating strong scientific leadership.
Engage other business lines as required to collaboratively address technical and process issues.
Qualifications: PhD in organic synthesis with an honours degree in Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Or Honours degree level entry, with sunstantial experience.
Extensive practical synthetic organic chemistry experience.
Excellent broad knowledge of synthetic reagents, synthetic methodology, reaction mechanisms, reaction work-ups and isolations and a proven application of this knowledge.
Sound chemistry judgement in own work and in problem solving.
Able to coach and mentor other colleagues, providing guidance and career development support.
Able to prioritise based on urgency and importance of tasks.
An ability to plan own work and the work of others for extended periods.
