Description:
Focus is on independently designing, implementing and advancing scientific experiments, which contribute to the successful completion of goals. Designs and implements specific scientific research projects. Conducts laboratory experiments. Plans detailed procedures for defined projects, including timelines, milestones, methodological approaches, expected results and necessary resources. Reviews, analyzes and interprets scientific data and results. Collaborates with other scientists. May participate or contribute to key /critical teams. May supervise Associates and Lab Assistants. Advises supervisors and colleagues in areas of expertise. Provides regular updates, documentation, and communication of project results as appropriate. Participates in national scientific meetings. Keeps current with field of expertise, including literature and technology development. Provides scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents or regulatory submissions.

May participate in recruiting and candidate evaluation. Monitors and analyzes competitive scientific knowledge from external sources to maintain an updated information base. Supervises scientific projects. Defines project goals. Proactively defines experiments. Provides critical evaluation of scientific data and results. Provides technical mentoring and expertise to staff. Participates in, and contributes to, various key or critical teams. May participate in new product/research opportunities. Advises supervisors and colleagues in areas of expertise. Investigates possible external opportunities and participate in the development of external contacts and collaborations. Expands technical area of expertise to a broader level of understanding in relevant scientific fields. Responsible for organizational efficiency through participation in recruiting and candidate evaluation. Seeks out and analyzes competitive scientific knowledge from external sources. Other functions may! be assigned.

Experience:
Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or a related field and 3+ years of relevant scientific experience.

Supervisory:
Ability to motivate, lead, and/or supervise the activities of others. Ability in lab management. Discretion: Skill in independently determining and developing scientific solutions. Skill in exercising considerable latitude in determining objectives of scientific work.

Communication:
Excellent communication skills, both written & oral in addition to listening skills. Fully bilingual (English and Spanish). Collaboration and team facilitation skills. Ability to develop realistic timelines. Skill in communicating to outside groups across the organization and in various disciplines.

Scientific:
Problem solving skills requiring the application of scientific theory; good scientific analysis & troubleshooting skills; strong laboratory work skills; creative skills in the design & performance of scientific experiments & interpretation of results. Creative skills in the development of new hypotheses for scientific experiments; skill in the critical evaluation and detailed interpretation of results; Demonstrated knowledge of scientific relevance of targeted work.
