Hey Guy! If you guys have a cold room or a chromatography fridge, just get a regular Eppendorf microfuge (e.g. Eppendorf 5415D or Kendro/Sorvall eq) and plonk it in there - its costs less than a third as much, and rks reliably.
In 10 yrs of working with refrigerated c'fuges of atleast 3 brands, I've realized that the refgn is usually the first to go!

Samm .
Dosent metter the model no. What bernd you would prefer?
I already put one regular eppendorf centrifuge in the cold room. But, i have to do 5 washes each one 3 minutes. The cold room is not in the lab so it is not easy to run between rooms.

Just to let all know that I we got the new refrigerated centrifuge.
We chose the Beckman Coulter Microfuge 22R.
I must say that I am very happy with the choice. It is going up to 22000rcf and refrigerating up to -10Deg Cel.
Just a great machine.

Just to add in case others are looking for a microfuge in the future:

We have always bought microfuges from Heraeus and Eppendorf. Just recently we have bought 2 machines from Thermo and the cooling systems on both have failed within the first 6 months. I believe (but may be wrong) that Thermo bought Heraeus and moved production from Germany to somewhere cheaper. Anyway, I'd avoid the MicroCL 17R if I were you. Also, the "technician" who came out to fix one of them, which had a build fault asssociated with the drive spindle, "fixed it" with a large hammer! After this the rotor was unable to rotate....and we decided not to order anything other than -80 freezers from Thermo in the future.

We also had 2 brand new tissue culture incubators from Thermo/Heraeus. The door seals failed on both and the steel water casing failed on one withing 1 year. The company was very difficult to deal with and it took a lot of energy to persuade them to replace the leaking one (which was under warranty!).

To end on a positive though, we were most impressed by the Hettich centrifuges, the service the company offered and the free 5 year warranty they offered. Clearly they trust their products not to fail. "Made in Germany" still means something I think.
