NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnatis Computational Medicine Center have developed software to help researchers decide if changes in genomic sequences may be related to disease or whether they warrant further study, the hospital said today.
Developed with funding from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Cancer Institute, the software, called PolyDoms, is a web-based tool that will help prioritize which genetic variations are more likely to alter the structure and function of a protein, said David Schwartz, director of the NIEHS.
Knowing those variations, Schwartz said, will provide researchers with critical information related to disease susceptibility, progression and targets for therapeutic interventions.
The PolyDoms software may be accessed freely.
