Pegasus Technical Services, Inc., an environmental firm in Cincinnati, Ohio, has an immediate opening for a Senior Level Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Chemist. This full-time position is funded through a U.E. EPA contract for the development of analytical methods for sample analysis using LC-MS/MS.

The successful candidate will be a key member of a team developing quantitative analytical methods using LC-MS/MS for emerging contaminants such as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs, i.e., natural and synthetic hormones and their conjugates; alkylphenols, alkylphenol ethoxylates, and their metabolites), perfluorinated chemicals (i.e. PFOA, PFOS, and their precursors), and pharmaceuticals in environmental samples. The environmental sample matrices include routine matrices such as groundwater and surface water as well as very difficult matrices with a high potential for suppression or interferences such as wastewater influents/effluents, biosolid sludges, tissues, animal wastes, and sediments. Method development will include sample preparation (i.e. sample preservation and handling, extraction, and fractionation) as well as extensive cleanup or purification. The position requires a high degree of competence with quality control and the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for analysis of samples at parts per billion and part per trillion levels. Once the methods have been developed/validated and the SOPs written, the successful candidate is expected to provide oversight and troubleshooting for routine analysis of these compounds in support of numerous on-going projects and/or developing new projects. Depending on the qualifications, the successful candidate may also be asked to oversee multiple analytical methods involving GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.

Basic Qualifications:
The candidate is expected to have a PhD (preferred) in analytical or organic chemistry with at least 2 years of relevant experience or a MS with at least 5 years applicable experience.

Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of different types of mass spectrometer configurations and analyzer types is valuable (such as Waters CapLC-QTOF and LC-Triple Quad).
Competence in maintaining and diagnosing instrument functions is also a valuable aspect of the position.

To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter to Karen Koran at Koran.Karen@epa.gov or Raghuraman Venkatapathy at venkatapathy.raghuraman@epa.gov.
