BS/BA Life Science or Computer Information Science 5 or more years programming experience with the following languages: Java, PL/SQL, HTML/DHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Visual Basic, C/C++, Perl, shell scripting 5 or more years experience using Oracle RDBMS (8i, 9i, 10g) in software development 3 or more years experience supporting drug discovery research programs in an informatics role in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry Strong understanding of small molecule drug discovery processes Understanding and experience in the software development life cycle (requirements gathering, prototyping, source control, defect tracking, etc.) Proficiency on UNIX/Linux operating systems Willingness to travel to Japan on occasion (2-3 times a year) Excellent communication, personal and organizational skills Preferred:
MS/PhD in a scientific discipline Proficiency with many of the following systems/solutions/toolkits: Oracle, BEA Weblogic, ActivityBase, Assay Explorer, ISIS Host, chemical cartridges (Daylight, JChem, ISIS Direct, CambridgeSoft), JChem API/Tools, CDK, Spotfire, Pipeline Pilot, Chemical Drawing packages (Chemdraw, ISIS Draw), Hibernate, AJAX, Apache Jakarta tools (Ant, Log4j, Commons, Tomcat, POI, Net, etc.) Xlfit, Prism, GraphPad, Windows, MS Office, Visio, Erwin Involvement in the development of the following: compound registration, structure searching, sample management, reagent inventory management, screening data warehousing Knowledge and understanding of some of the following: Watson LIMS, ACD Labs NMR & MS Processor, Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN), OpenEye Toolkit, Corina, Crossfire, SciFinder Knowledge and understanding of the following inudstry specifications: SDF, MOL, PDB, HTTP, XML DOM2, CSS, HTML, Serviet 2.4 / JSP 1.2, JSR 168/286, TCP/IP Working understanding and knowledge of organic/medicinal/protein chemistry, statistics, molecular biology, pharmacology, cell biology, crystallography, enzyme kinetics Strong skills in web usability and web application design Experience developing software that has interfaced with laboratory equipment and barcode scanners Bilingual in Japanese Job Responsibilities:
Support all scientific staff with research computing needs Technical lead in transferring research information systems to our parent company in Japan Identify industry software solutions and databases that will enhace scientific productivity Interact with Information Analysts, Information Technology, and scientists to maintain/enhance/build proprietary software solutions for our parent company in Japan Write project plans and maintain software source code (documentation and control systems) Work with IT on upgrades of components and proprietary software Participate in Informatics biweekly meetings, architectural strategy, and annual department goals Present and demonstrate software solutions to scientists Collaborate with scientific departments to build software tools Contribute in data modeling and workflow analysis Interact with other developers to develop reusable components and define interfaces How to apply Please note all inquiries with job code.
