Hello!

I am doing some work on depyrogenation, and want to find out how dry heat, moist heat and caustic act on endotoxin (LPS) molecules... and why dry heat is the most effective way of destroying endotoxin.

Having some difficulty finding anything published though... any ideas?

Here are a few publications (pdfs) on dry heat that may be useful.

[Hello
I am also doing work on the destruction of endotoxins by caustic agents. I have found some research in dental journals using CaO or CaOH in root canals.

Margiemoon:

A great reference text for endotoxins is available from the Drugs and The Pharmaceutical Sciences Series, Vol 111

Williams, KL. Endotoxins - Pyrogens, LAL Testing, and Depyrogenation. Second Edition, Revised and Expanded. Marcel Dekker, New York. 2001.

Chapter 14 Depyrogenation Validation, Pyroburden, and Endotoxin Removal from Drugs, should be a big help as it goes into the details of deactivation mechanisms on the LPS molecule.

Also, here the wikipedia link for depyrogenation:

Good Luck!
