Position Number 103117
Description:
The faculty of the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland is seeking an outstanding individual at the tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor rank, with emphasis on animal biometrics and applied statistics. This is a 9-month, 70% research and 30% teaching appointment.
Responsibilities:
The appointee is expected to establish an extramurally funded research program related to animal sciences that complements the Department’s four core areas (Nutrient Utilization & Metabolism, Genetics & Cell Biology, Reproduction & Development, and Pathobiology & Infectious Diseases) (http://ansc.umd.edu/research/index.cfm). Teaching responsibilities include teaching a graduate level Introduction to Biometrics course (BIOM601 Biostatistics I) every fall semester and a second course in the candidate’s area of research interest every other year. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, individuals must have an externally funded research program and an established record of research productivity. The department has 24 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Further information on our department can be found at http://www.ansc.umd.edu. Preferred qualifications include 1) demonstrated record of publication, 2) potential for securing extramural funding for appointment at tenure-track assistant professor level, or proof of substantial extramural funding for appointment at the tenured associate professor level, and 3) extensive application of statistics in previous research (e.g., quantitative or statistical genetics, statistical or mathematical modeling of nutrient utilization and metabolic pathway).
Salary & Benefits:
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package. The position is a full time 9-month academic appointment. The opportunity exists to supplement salary through summer salary support from extramural funding.
