Job Description

DIRECTOR, VENTURA COUNTY AND HANSEN RESEARCH AND
EXTENSION CENTER (REC), COOPERATIVE EXTENSION ADVISOR

Across California, the University of California’s Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) is an engine for problem solving. Serving as the bridge between local issues and the power of UC research, our more than 300 campus-based specialists and county-based farm, home, and youth advisors work as teams to bring practical, unbiased, science-based answers to Californians.

We seek a Director and Advisor, to provide leadership, financial management, and conduct a county-based extension, education, and applied research program in a discipline critical to Ventura County.

We seek a Director and Advisor who is:
-A leader who can provide expertise, direction, and advocacy for Cooperative Extension in Ventura County; who can maintain effective communication within UC ANR and county government; serve as an ex-officio member of the Thelma Hansen Fund (Endowment) Advisory Board; and who is comfortable with a collaborative approach to problem solving and conflict resolution.
-A skilled financial manager, who can advise on the appropriate uses of endowment funds to further the purpose and goals of the endowment.
-An innovative researcher interested in multi-disciplinary projects of significant importance to Ventura County; who can forge strong interactions with local County partners and clientele and UC colleagues; contribute to core research and extension goals.
-An educator with a passion for delivering extension education programs using traditional and innovative delivery techniques.
-A collaborator who can develop partnerships and leverage resources to deliver innovative approaches that will develop, strengthen and expand the local delivery of programs; one who can participate in UC ANR program teams, workgroups and meetings to ensure strong linkages and effective communications between the REC system, UC ANR administration and appropriate UC campus departments.
-A visionary, who can complement UC ANR’s Strategic Vision, optimizing opportunities for conducting outstanding research and extension programs that meet the needs of Californians.

For information about UC ANR, the rich breadth of program scope and delivery, and how we are making a difference in California, candidates are invited to visit our Web site: ucanr.edu.

The Hansen REC, in Ventura County, is located 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The county has been able to sustain its agricultural industry despite urbanization pressures, largely because of its innovative public policies. Ventura County offers a coastal, rural lifestyle within easy reach of a major metropolitan area.
-This position is an academic career track appointment; a Master's Degree is required, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in a discipline related to water, land use, pests, science literacy or economics or a closely related field.

Experience in conducting applied research and education programs is required. For a full position vacancy announcement and application procedures, please visit http://ucanr.org/jobs or contact Karen Ellsworth at kaellsworth@ucdavis.edu, (530) 752-7532 and refer to position listing AP#11-15. To assure full consideration, applications should be submitted by May 31, 2012 (open until filled).

The University of California offers an attractive benefits package. For more information, please visit the UC Benefits Web site: atyourservice.ucop.edu.
