HUGO's 11th Human Genome Meeting
Helsinki Fair Centre, Helsinki, Finland, Wed 31 May to Sat 03 June 2006

About HGM2006

HUGO is delighted to invite everyone involved in, or with an interest in, human genome research to Helsinki, Finland for HGM2006. Between 31 May and 3 June 2006, the beautiful cilty of Helsinki will host HGM2006, HUGO's 11th International Genome Meeting, at the Helsinki Fair Centre. HGM2006 is designed to update and increase your knowledge in the quickly moving field of human genome research. A stimulating and interesting programme of plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, poster presentations, and social events make HGM2006 an ideal forum to share information and results with researchers in both science and industry. This is an increasingly exciting time for scientists working on the human genome and HGM2006 provides an opportunity for participants to establish international collaborations. Topics will include those listed on the Programme page.

Helsinki's stunning architecture, tree-lined streets, colourful market square, and harbour ensure its place amongst Europe's most vibrant and welcoming cities. Founded in 1550 and the capital of Finland since 1812, Helsinki is located on a peninsula at the southern tip of the country, almost equidistant from Stockholm, Sweden and St. Petersburg, Russia. This genteel and cosmopolitan city effortlessly blends past and present, nature and metropolis, East and West. It is a stylish, clean, and sophisiticated city whose history, traditions, and people invite you on a tour of discovery. There are numerous places worth visiting, such as the historical area close to the South Harbour, the blindingly white Lutheran Cathedral with its green domes and wide sweeping steps, the busy Market Square, the island fortress of Suomenlinna, which is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List, and several museums. Outside the city you can visit the beautiful countryside, the lakes, the forests - travelling by water is as natural to the Finns as driving a car. The water and shorelines are also the focus of special activities for visitors - and complete the experience that is Finland and try a traditional sauna.

Helsinki is a cultural city whose urban, cosmopolitan lifestyle exists in harmony with nature. Surrounded by the sea and its own exotic archipelago, Helsinki offers visitors an endless number of possibilities. Just as Helsinki cannot be described in one word, neither can it be experienced in just one way. Helsinki really does have something for everyone.
