I had it once and used Cambrex's mycoplasma detection kit to confirm that I had it.

It was not a major disaster as I keep cryostocks of all my lines in liquid nitrogen vapor anyway, so rather than playing around with antibiotic doses, I just went for the kill everything, clean out the incubator and hood and start again approach. It only cost me a few days in the end.

If your cells are critical, treating them with Plasmogen antibiotic for a few weeks will "cure" the problem. I had some serious issues a few months back. We had to shut down our whole tissue culture room because of it.

We have used normocin and MRA treatment to eliminate mycoplasma. However, i firmly believe that if your cells are replaceable (e.g. from frozen stocks), just throw away the old stuff, run the decontam/sterilization cycle on your incubators, swab all surfaces an start afresh, with normoin present when you thaw the frozen cells.
