G-protein-coupled receptors also known as GPCRs have been the most popular and successful target of choice for researchers and remain at least 40% of their efforts in drug discovery. At present a large amount of GPCR-based drugs have been developed for human disease states which this class of receptors is involved with. Some of these important diseases treatable with GPCRs are known as heart failure, chronic pain, obesity and neuropsychiatric disorders.
However the question remains: how are new potential GPCR-based drugs identified and developed for the treatment of human diseases?
