I am working on a plasma membrane protein that has multiple sites of N-glcosylation. It seems they are indispensible for function, ie cleavage with PNGase F destroys function. Can someone give me some basic information on what these structures do and how to determine what they are?

Thanks

Gman

Here's a great basic explanation of all PTMs with emphasis on glycan-addition. Hope this helps
